Toddler talk

This morning Pea woke up in a good mood - I seriously don't remember the last time that happened, usually she wakes up incredibly grumpy demanding to "watch a show", being that it's usually 6:30 am I oblige and we watch while I have my morning tea. This morning however was different, she woke up happy and cuddly full of hugs and kisses and then one of the cutest things ever came out of her mouth. She studies the black and white maternity photo we have hanging above our bed and says "Look Mama- Paige- a little baby- in mama's tummy" and I say "Yes! What were you doing in there?" To which she replies "Oh, just makin cookies" with the funniest little grin. God I love her.

These days have been hard, Pea suffered her first tummy bug which left her feeling grumpy, sick and out of sorts. Luckily there was no vomiting but she had a lot of stomach pain and many trips to the bathroom. It's so awful to watch your child in pain and not be able to do anything for them. She didn't sleep well through it and today was really the first good day since she got it last tuesday. One good thing however has come from it- she decided to start pooping on the toilet and now that she is dry at night I think I can safely say she is there. Either way- I won't force anything.

Along with the tummy bug came a new stage, Pea is SO indecisive, I know toddler indecisiveness is normal so this is likely one of those passing stages that I will look back on and think "oh that wasn't SO bad" but right now it is incredibly frustrating for the both of us. My patience and compassion wears thin at the end of the day and I find myself getting snappy which is not where I want to be. It can be about simple things, wanting a particular cup, a certain way of putting her dolls in bed, the right song to sing. But it is not that she is just picky, she will ask for something for example tonight she asks me to take her to bed, I get up and take her in there, as soon as we get in the room she flips out and says she wants to get up, so I get up with her and she screams to go back to bed!! If I let it it will continue on for who knows how long so I have started to make her stick with a decision which doesn't go over well but distraction comes in handy eventually. It's not a huge deal really I am learning the coping skills of this new phase and by the time I perfect them I'll be dealing with something harder...that's just the way it goes.

I have been slacking on these updates I know- I don't even remember the last time I recorded some favorite books so I'll do so now and then I'm off to bed, yes it is 9 and I'm hitting the hay, it's hard keeping up with a 2 year old!!!
