Like many fathers and daughters, my dad and I have a special relationship. Ever since I was little I have always looked up to my dad, in 25 years he has taught me a lot about life, from riding my bike to healing a broken heart, he has been there through it all.
When I think back on my childhood memories the ones of my dad fill my heart with happiness and love. Lots of summers spent riding bikes together, stopping at the Green Apple for ice cream, Fred's drive in for burgers, camping adventures and trips to the secret beach. My dad has a love of the outdoors and many of the amazing places I know of are because of my dad.
I'd like to share two memories of my dad that always stand out in my mind. I came home from school with an introduction to History 12, it was 5 pages of historical events/figures etc and we were supposed to fill in any that we knew, I think I knew of 5, and my dad filled in every single one but 2. Not only did he fill in almost every single one, he taught me about it as well. My history teacher was astounded and impressed that my dad knew so much about world history.
Another memory I have from my childhood is my dad brushing my hair, my dad always had the nicest brush and the gentlest touch. I remember begging my mum to let my dad do it because he was always so careful not to pull! Ha!
Now I get to watch my dad be a Grandpa to Pea, it is such a treat to see them together. Pea absolutely adores her Papa and they have a very special relationship. What an amazing thing it is to see my dad coloring with my daughter, drinking tea together, holding hands while walking, just being together. We are so lucky.
I cherish every visit I have with my dad, there are no words that can express the type of love I feel for him, it is the type of love that can only be shown in a lifetime. I am so thankful to have him in my life.
Thank you Dad for being the best father, Papa, person and friend. I love you so much. Happy Fathers Day.
