I have never pushed Pea to say "Thank You" for things. We have had talks about how if we feel thankful for something someone has given us it is nice to say "Thank you" and I always make sure to model gratitude in front of her but beyond that I have never pushed the issue. I have read plenty on the topic and have always trusted that eventually she would say it.
Now that she is getting older I am finding that tons of kids her age say "thank you" often whereas she does not. I was starting to doubt my approach and was beginning to seek out more information on when children are most likely to begin to say it on their own.
Yesterday Pea asked Daddy for a glass of water and when he handed it to her she said "Tank you!" At first I thought it was a fluke but then she said it to me later that day after asking for an apple and then again to her friend for passing a crayon. I am so happy I trusted her and it is wonderful to see genuine gratitude expressed on her own terms.
Thank you for reading :)
